Every car owner eventually prices the three options: build or rent a garage, put up a carport, or buy a car cover. They are not interchangeable, and the honest comparison is about what each one blocks and what it lets through.
Garage: best protection, highest cost
A garage stops weather, sun and casual theft completely. Carport: roof, no walls
